Frequently Asked Questions
What is Xeomin? How Does It Work?
Xeomin is an injectable neuromodulator. Neuromodulators are derived from botulinum toxin type A, a protein and neurotoxin. Once injected, Xeomin works beneath the surface of your skin and temporarily reduces activity in the muscles used to make facial expressions that cause lines and wrinkles.*
Xeomin is made through a unique precision manufacturing process. The process isolates the therapeutic component of the molecule and removes accessory proteins that don’t play an active role in treatment. It is a highly purified neurotoxin.*
As with other neuromodulators, Xeomin treatment is a simple, 10-minute, non-surgical process. You can even do it on your lunch break. We welcome you to come in get a free consultation to find out if treatment is right for you. We’ll be glad to answer any and all of your questions.
Questions and Answers
What Causes Wrinkles?
The lines and wrinkles that contribute to an older appearance are the result of often-repeated facial movements. Smiling, squinting, and furrowing the brow dozens of times a day over the course of a lifetime etches wrinkles into the skin. With age, the body’s production of collagen and elastin declines — the skin becomes less elastic and less able to return to normal after being stretched by muscle contractions. Neuromodulators, solve this problem by limiting the impact of the repetitions that cause the signs of aging.*
What is Xeomin?
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) for injection, for intramuscular use, is a prescription medication used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. Xeomin contains botulinum toxin type A, a protein purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
How Does Xeomin Work?
When you squint or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some fo its elasticity, these repeated contractions canc ause persistent frown lines.
Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in Xeomin – acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, it can temporarily reduce the lines on your forehead between your brows.
Is Xeomin Proven?
Xeomin for injection, for intramuscular use, was proven effect in two randomized, double-blind, multicenter, placebo-controlled clinical trials of 547 healthy, adult patients. The average age of patients in the study was 46 years. Patients received 20 units of Xeomin and were classified as responders if they had a 2-grade improvement on a 4-point scale as assessed by the physician and patient. Using these criteria, treatment success was higher with Xeomin than placebo on Day 30 in both studies (60% and 48% vs 0% for placebo in both studies). Based on these trials, Xeomin received FDA approval for aesthetic use in 2011.1

How Many Injections Will I Need?

For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject 3 areas of the muscle on both sides of your face. For the frown lines area, you will receive 5 injections into the muscles between your brows and your forehead. For the forehead lines area, you will receive 5 injections into a muscle in your forehead.*
Does the Treatment Hurt?
While pain and discomfort are relative and experiences will vary, Xeomin typically involves minimal discomfort, if any. Some patients report that the Xeomin injection feels like a pinch.*
