What is Tummy Tuck Surgery? 

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal area while tightening the underlying muscles. This surgery is beneficial for individuals who have loose, sagging skin or weakened abdominal muscles due to factors like pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or aging. During the procedure, your surgeon will remove the excess skin and fat, tighten the muscles, and create a more toned, firmer appearance.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure 

Tummy tuck surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision along the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area. The length of the incision will depend on the extent of the procedure. For those needing only minor improvements, a mini tummy tuck may be recommended, which involves a smaller incision and focuses on tightening the loose skin and muscles below the belly button. 

Once the incision is made, excess skin and excess fat are removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened to create a firmer, flatter appearance. The skin is then pulled down over the abdomen, and the incision is closed with sutures. In some cases, liposuction may be performed in conjunction with the tummy tuck to further enhance the contour of the waistline. 

Tummy Tuck Results and Recovery 

After your tummy tuck plastic surgery, you will likely experience some swelling and discomfort, but these symptoms can be managed with prescribed medications. Most patients are able to return to work and light activities within two to four weeks, but strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least six weeks. It is important to avoid sun exposure to let your tummy tuck scar heal properly after the aesthetic plastic surgery.
